How to Set Your Preferred Default Printer in Windows
To set your preferred default printer in Windows 10 and 11. Easy steps to choose a fixed printer and stop Windows from changing it automatically.
On Windows 11
Open Settings (press Windows + I).
Go to Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
Under Printer preferences, turn Off the option “Let Windows manage my default printer”.
Click on the printer you want to use as default.
Click the Set as default button.
The status will change to Default.
On Windows 10
Open Settings (press Windows + I).
Go to Devices → Printers & scanners.
Uncheck the box “Let Windows manage my default printer”.
Click the printer you want as default → click Manage.
Click Set as default.
Alternative Method (Both Windows 10 & 11)
Press Windows + R, type control, and press Enter.
Open Devices and Printers.
Right-click your preferred printer.
Select Set as default printer.
Note:
If “Let Windows manage my default printer” is turned On, Windows will automatically change the default to the last printer you used. Turn it off if you want a fixed preferred printer.
